SPENCER NILES ACCEPTS APPOINTMENT TO PENN STATERS FOR RESPONSIBLE STEWARDSHIP BOARD
August 15, 2013 —- PS4RS MEMBER NEWS: We’ve just added Spencer Niles to our PS4RS Board. Spencer is a former Penn State Distinguished Professor and Department Head for Educational Psychology, Counseling, and Special Education. He very recently left Penn State to become Dean and Professor of Education at the College of William and Mary. We are impressed and thankful for the outspoken role Spencer has played in the scandal to date, including his participation in the NCAA lawsuit, and we look forward to the faculty perspective — and credibility — he will lend to our efforts. Most immediately, Spencer will become involved with our blog; growing our membership through his Penn State connections with the objective of
“getting out the vote” for the 2014 alumni trustee election; and helping us exceed our fundraising goals to support our future endorsed candidates.
For background, Spencer is a Penn Stater through and through! He earned his doctoral degree from the College of Education at Penn State in 1986. From 1987-2000, he served as Professor and Assistant Dean in the Curry School of Education at the University of Virginia. He served as Distinguished Professor and Department Head for Educational Psychology, Counseling, and Special Education in the College of Education at Penn State from 2000-2013. Spencer has served on numerous international and national boards, has 135 publications, including 16 books, and has delivered more than 150 presentations at international and national conferences. His two children also graduated from Penn State in ’13 and ’09.
